Family Planning Services at ICP
Our services are available for patients registered with the practice, and also for non-registered patients, who are specifically seeking family planning advice. All advice and treatment is confidential, and is open to all ages. Young people are especially welcome.
We aim to provide a full family planning service at both The Old Cottage Hospital and Fitznells Manor surgeries. Appointments can be made with your own doctor in the usual way, or alternatively a drop-in family planning clinic is available, with no appointment needed.
Drop In Clinic
The Old Cottage Hospital
Thursdays 6pm to 7pm
Contraceptive pill prescriptions, emergency contraception, contraceptive injections, cap checks and replacements, IUD/IUS checks, contraceptive advice and basic screening for STI's (sexually transmitted infections) can all be carried out in the drop in clinics. Routine nurse appointments are also available for taking vaginal swabs, basic screening for STI's, advice about vaginal discharge, cap fittings and menopause advice.
IUD/IUS fittings and implant fittings are available by appointment with a specialist doctor at both sites. We will try to offer an appointment at a convenient time for you. Please ask for further details.
Emergency contraception is prescribed by all doctors and family planning nurses in the practice and is most effective given as soon as possible after unprotected sex. Therefore, if you believe you may need to have emergency contraception please ask the receptionist for an "On the day" or "urgent" appointment and they will try to fit you in.
ICP is an approved site for Surrey County Council's 'Get it On' - a service providing free condoms for under 21s. Teenagers not registered with ICP can also avail themselves of this service by registering for contraceptive services only.
New Women's Health / Family Planning Clinic
In tandem with the drop - in clinc, we are offering a new Women's Health and Family Planning Clinic for a trial period. This clinic will offer appointments for pill/ IUD checks, vaginal/ STI swabs, contraceptive injections and emergency contraception. Please ring if you want to make an appointment.
* Cervical smears will not be available in this clinic.
Chlamydia Screening
'Chlamydia screening is also available as part of the Surrey-wide 'Go Check Yourself' scheme, for patients who have no symptoms of infection, but would like a test for reassurance. This is a scheme where you can do a self-test at home, and then drop the specimen back to the practice to send off. The test involves a urine test for males and a vaginal swab for females, and the instructions are very easy to follow. The results are completely confidential and treatment, if required, will be arranged quickly and free-of-charge. Ask any GP or nurse for the self-testing pack, and they will be able to answer any of your questions. For more information on the scheme, visit the website www.gocheckyourself.com. If you are suffering any symptoms that you are worried may be an STI, please make an appointment to see a GP, or pop in to the family planning clinic on a Thursday evening.'
